Cherry Street AME Church

Recognized as the “Mother Church” of the AME denomination in Alabama, this historic site was originally organized in 1877 as the Colored Methodist Church. It is available for drive-by viewing only.

Dothan Opera House

Built in 1915, the building represents the elegance of the turn-of-the-century life. Theatrical productions, ballets and symphony performances are held in this landmark, which is on the National Historic Register. George Washington Carver Interpretive Museum

Located in the original Greyhound bus station in downtown Dothan, the George Washington Carver Interpretive Museum honors Dr. Carver’s legacy as a scientist, artist, and innovator who helped transform Southern agriculture. The museum’s exhibits showcase the achievements of African Americans and the lasting impact of Dr. Carver’s work, with free admission and guided tours available by reservation.

Murals of the Wiregrass

Begin your exploration at the Dothan Civic Center parking lot, where the “Salute to the Peanut Industry” mural marks the starting point of the city’s historic mural trail. This ongoing downtown project features works by nationally and internationally acclaimed artists depicting local history—from peanut agriculture and the Tuskegee Airmen to Johnny Mack Brown and early Dothan life—with guided and self-guided tours available.

An exhibit of 4 foot peanuts that have been creatively designed by various artists can be found around Dothan. Maps are available at the Visit Dothan Headquarters

Wiregrass Museum of Art

Located in historic downtown Dothan and housed in the city's original Municipal Light and Water Plant, the Wiregrass Museum of Art collects and exhibits contemporary work by artists from Alabama and around the Southeast. Pieces from the permanent collection are on display throughout the year with temporary exhibitions that change quarterly. WMA also hosts artist workshops, educational tours and programming, film screenings, and live music.

World’s Smallest City Block

Recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records, this land triangle features a stop sign, yield sign, and street signs.

Porter Park Plaza

Located in the heart of downtown Dothan, this new outdoor venue features an amphitheater, food-truck hookups, and vibrant public art designed to host concerts, gatherings, and community events. It serves as a lively hub connecting locals and visitors through entertainment, culture, and shared experiences.
